5 Things you should know before trying the Bootcamp Workout

Do you feel like you need something a little more structured than your standard gym classes? Is working out on your own not working well? Treadmills and machines are undeniably great but they may not provide the motivation you need. Ideally, you’re looking for the type of workout where you’re tested physically with a strong instructor for motivation, AND you’re looking for something you can do with a group. Enter the boot camp workout! These workout classes are all the rage these days and there are so many reasons why. The structure, the workout, the motivation, the instructor, the results! However, you shouldn’t just jump into a class. There are some basic things you’ll need to know before trying the bootcamp workout. Bootcamp Workouts - Do Some Reconnaissance


The last thing you should do before making a commitment to this type of class is to go in with little to know information. For instance, different gyms offer different types of workouts. It’s very helpful to know what kind of workouts you’ll be doing in the class. This way you can determine whether it’s the type of workout you need. Also, while it’s great to push yourself, you never want to do so at the risk of your own health and safety. Doing some reconnaissance is the best way to ensure you’ve chosen correctly out of all the different boot camp workouts.


Wear Your Civvies


Even though it’s a boot camp class, that doesn’t mean it’s an actual boot camp. Leave the combat boots and fatigues at home. Grab your sportswear and head to the gym. Now, it’s possible you’ll need bring indoor wear and/or outdoor wear. That really depends on the class. So be sure to dress accordingly.




This is a great note for truly any workout but it bears repeating: drink water and eat healthy. Boot camp workouts are very tough. There’s a reason they’re used for those training in the armed services. So make sure your body is hydrated and that you have the right amount of carbohydrates. Try to keep away from consuming too much fiber and/or fats. As always, be sure you’re doing what’s best for your body and health.




Always make sure you take time to check in with your instructor and advise whether you have any injuries or limitations. If you’re unsure of anything, that’s ok. It’s your instructor’s job to make sure you’re as up to speed as possible while still keeping the flow of class moving for others. If they know to keep an eye on you, they’ll be sure to help you get the most bang for your buck when it comes to your workout.




Workouts are difficult and it takes time to build up the right amount of strength. If you’re unsure whether to proceed, always err on the side of caution. An effective bootcamp workout is always better than one where you push to point of hurting yourself.
