HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training)

When a majority of Americans go shopping, they are looking for the most bang for their buck. Money doesn’t want to be wasted, and the product purchase price should make sense for how much you’ll use it and how long you intend to keep it. A similar logic applies to fitness. If you’re new to working out or are setting a higher fitness goal for yourself, you’ll find that every second in the gym counts. When you’re sitting on a workout machine staring at your phone time is passing by. This is a precious time that you have decided to set aside in your day to reach your fitness goals, and you need to get your money’s worth from your gym membership. Intensity is a great way to focus on a task because it forces you to pay attention and give the task you’re all. A HIIT workout is an exercise that focuses on increasing the intensity you give in a workout, as every second of the workout requires your attention. This article will explore what a HIIT workout is, its various health benefits, and an overview of a HIIT workout plan.

What is HIIT workout?

HIIT is short for high-intensity interval training, a unique cardiovascular exercise with intense cardio bursts along with other fitness movements. The goal is to keep your heart rate up so that it can become stronger to handle longer or more intense workouts in the future.  When performing a HIIT workout, some people go until their breaking point, where they can’t continue and leave it all in the gym. Regular HIIT workouts can help individuals achieve their unique fitness goals, which will be discussed at length next.

What are the benefits of a HITT workout?

HITT workouts can result in a lot of positive health benefits and if used correctly can compliment an overall fitness and health plan. The most talked about health benefit of a HITT workout is fat loss. The reasoning behind this, according to experts, is that because the exercise is so intense the body sends a signal that it needs the muscles worked on during the workout to be repaired. This muscle repairing process burns fat usually within a day after the workout. Meaning that you will also burn calories well after your exercise is completed. Another key benefit is a stronger/healthier heart. As you now know, the goal of a HIIT workout is to keep your heart rate up. This is important because when you’re heart rate is up it is in training mode, it is being trained to push itself a little bit further each time. This is great for athletes who want to last longer on the field or the track. Also, this can even benefit people who want to lift heavier weights. Having a good HIIT workout plan is crucial to get these benefits, an example of such a plan will be listed in the next section.

What's a good HIIT workout plan?

A HIIT workout focuses on cardio but can also incorporate other elements such as weightlifting as well. Concerning equipment/machines used its typical that a treadmill, Stairmaster, or jump rope is likely used. However, any cardio machine can be used for this. Besides, a machine doesn’t have to be used at all, as short distance sprinting can achieve similar results. A HIIT workout will have a warm-up period, the HIIT exercises, and a cooling down period. Warm Up: To start any workout you’ll want to stretch and wake up the muscles that you are about to use. A light warmup jog is recommended, but you should consult with your trainer or class instructor first. HIIT: After you’ve warmed up you’ll keep an eye on your heart rate if you’re wearing a monitor to make sure you’re keeping your heart rate up.

Cool Down: You’ll want to slowly bring your heart rate back down and do a light jog that eventually turns into a walk until your heart rate returns to back to normal. If you’re looking to get started, Fitness Loft has dedicated trainers here to help you.
